A young family applied for weatherization services. They are a family of 4, Dad, Mom, with a 1 year old baby and a 4 year old child. They own their own home and both work but struggling to make ends meet. They did not have the extra money to make the needed repairs or insulate the attic and a sliding glass door. The cost of materials alone is over $1,500.00. To contract it out would be nearly double the material cost. Their home was drafty and cold, and they use a fireplace to heat the home. CAA insulated the dwelling attic, replaced a sliding glass door in the living room that was falling apart, and completed weather stripping to another door and installed other weatherization measures to the home. Since the work was completed, the Mom called our office to offer her thanks and appreciation. She reported her home is no longer drafty and cold, and stays warm.

"Thank you for delivering meals to my dad's house. I can only get over there every 3rd weekend, as I have to work extra hours now to make ends meet. It is nice to know that Dad is eating properly and getting well-balanced meals. He really enjoys the fish meals and saves those for Friday. He always wants fish on Fridays. He looks forward to Wednesday afternoons and his visit with the deliveryman. I appreciate the driver for spending a little time talking with my dad. He is lonely since my Mom's passing in February. Senior Meals
I am 81 years old and cannot do some things for myself. Cooking is just one of them, so the home-delivered senior meal program gives me something to look forward to by giving me an experience to try new foods along with well-balanced nutrition. The added benefit [of having the] meals delivered right to my door is also of great benefit because I am also not able to drive. [This] program benefits my ability to live independently greatly.

My life is so much better and different with the help of the senior meals program. I am 86 and disabled and unable to be on my feet long, so cooking became a problem. The meals they bring me five days a week are good eating and a blessing to my health. The $12.50 a week I send in [is not much] for five meals, milk and desert.

Getting the lunches ensures that [mom} maintains a healthier diet. All the while mom was in the hospital all she talked about was going home to her own home. The meals enable her to stay in her own home. Thanks for the senior meals program.

My sight is not very good so I am having my daughter Barbara write this for me: I enjoy receiving hot meals because I am unable to see well enough to make and cook my own lunched. My daughter Barbara is not here during the lunch hour most days because she is busy working at her job during the day. I also enjoy the happy smile that greets me on the other side of the fence. A friendly face and a warm meal goes a long ways in my book. It gives me something to look forward to during the middle of the day. I also appreciate a well balanced meal because of my diabetes. I.F. lives alone in an apartment. She goes to dialysis three times weekly. She has a care worker who helps her two hours a day. She has had many problems with dialysis – stunts, catheters, and surgeries. She thinks things are finally going well. Now to her joy she feels much better. She has a great positive attitude regarding her condition and the treatment she receives. She is especially grateful for the meals being there for her. On her dialysis days she spends four hours a day getting her treatment and is extremely tired afterward. Because her meals are nutritionally balance she is doing well.
